Homeowner, Custom Multigenerational Home
Built on the site of the family’s original 1957 home, this custom residence was designed to bring multiple generations together under one roof while giving each family the privacy and independence of their own space. Two kitchens, two laundry areas, multiple bathrooms and distinct living spaces were incorporated into a cohesive modern home, with thoughtful planning throughout to support comfortable multigenerational living for years to come.
This custom home began with a clear goal: create a place where multiple generations of one family could live together without sacrificing independence. The original 1957 house was demolished to make way for a purpose-built residence planned around the different needs of the parents, their daughter’s family and the way they wanted to live together.
A dedicated main-level suite allows the grandparents to live comfortably without relying on stairs, while separate kitchens, laundry areas, bathrooms and living spaces give each generation a sense of home within the larger residence. Careful planning was required to integrate these spaces while meeting the fire separation and building requirements of a multigenerational home.
Warm wood tones, clean architectural lines and generous windows bring consistency throughout the interiors, while custom millwork, modern fireplaces and a dramatic light-filled entry add character. Outside, contemporary architecture, extensive deck space and a distinctive interior courtyard connect the home to the family’s much-loved garden.
The result is a home designed around both togetherness and independence, allowing the family to remain closely connected while each generation has a space of its own.
Every project starts with a conversation.
