As their family grew, the homeowners had a choice: move, or find more room in the house they already loved. This Burnaby home addition let them stay, adding roughly 1,500 square feet across three levels. An 18 foot sliding glass wall now opens the main floor to the garden, and a new lower level with ten foot ceilings gives the family space that feels nothing like a basement.
The project called for creative structural work. To gain living space below the garage, the garage slab was suspended and new space was built beneath it. The existing foundation was then underpinned so the lower level could have ten foot ceilings, giving it the height and comfort of a main floor rather than a basement.
On the main floor, the back of the house was opened up with an 18 foot sliding glass wall. With the panels open, the dining area and patio become one continuous space, bringing the garden into everyday family life.
Upstairs, the ensuite was rebuilt with a custom tiled shower and double vanity. Large format tile throughout the main level and engineered hardwood on the upper floor create a clean, consistent look that lets the natural light and garden views carry the home.
Every project starts with a conversation.
