Sawka Home Remodel

Seeking balance seems to be a constant focus in many aspects of life. How can we get what we want while being mindful of what we need? Renovations are no different! Taking an existing home or space and converting it to align with our ever-changing needs must be carefully considered while striving to maintain that perfect balance. The Sawka’s knew just how important this was as did the JBC team!

The main floor of this family’s home was the focus and where all the magic happened! The layout of the counters and appliances was reconfigured to open up the flow and allowed for an improved use of space. Both the fridge and stove were relocated which made room for the addition of the integrated hood fan. The warm walnut cabinetry is sleek and contrasts beautifully with the white upper cabinets. New quartz countertops and backsplash and tons of storage space make this kitchen a dream to cook or entertain in.

Across from the kitchen is the family room with a cozy and inviting fireplace and durable engineered hardwood floor. The fireplace was relocated to the center of the exterior wall and is now the focus of the room. Custom cabinetry with a combination of exposed and hidden shelving was added around the new fireplace insert. Having that mix of display space and storage areas is a great example of balance and a much-needed element to any family room.

Flowing from the back of the house and along the large tile floors from the kitchen through the hallway and to the entry you’ll find more elevations in design to this main floor. The new main staircase railing is dark and rich and exudes the same warmth found in the kitchen. Paired with the light walls this entrance is open and inviting. A great space to welcome people into your home.

Off the entry, is the upgraded powder room. Flipping the design script, you’ll find a similar colour palette than the entry but employed in a new way. Dark walls and lighter floors, keeping with the theme of the main floor yet making it complimentary as opposed to carbon copy. A cohesive way to balance the individual spaces with design and function. I’d say the perfect balance was achieved!
